Around town

Last week on my day off I ran errands and then set off for downtown Port Townsend to explore. There are a lot of galleries, cute boutiques, antique shops, sports stores, restaurants and coffee shops. It's pretty quaint and many of the original buildings from when the town was first founded are still here, Victorian style as well as old advertisements still painted on the on the sides of the buildings. There are stairs from downtown to "uptown." The stairs are very shallow as the story goes that in the late 1800s the women lived/hung out in Uptown and the men in Downtown (that's where most of the bars are) and when the women came to the Rose theatre for shows, etc, they had to walk down the stairs and so in order for people not to see their ankles, the steps were made to be very shallow. There's also a fountain at the bottom. I easily did them two at a time. There are only two parallel streets in the downtown with small alley like streets in between and the one closest to the water is suitably called "water street." In the stair picture you should be able to see the water at the very bottom. and the picture of the dog, that dog was hanging with it's arm out the window like that for at least 20minutes. Everyone seems to take their dogs with them everywhere here.
