Sol Duc Hot Springs

Last week Heather and I ventured over to Olympic National Park to the Sol Duc Hot Springs. It was my first time in a natural hot spring - ahhhhhhhh. Nice and relaxing. Since the summer tourist crazy season is over, it was nice and quiet there. Just what the doctor ordered. The Olympic Mountains are actually not volcanic at all so I was quite puzzled how these hot springs were formed. Turns out that this has been a question that has baffled scientists for years. The best conclusion is that it is just natural geothermic activity...?

There is enough heat to take the pools to over 100 degrees. The source of the heat is 300 ft underground. To get here you have to drive around 20minutes through the beautiful woods and it's nestled against the mountain backdrop. This is a trip that deserves a repeat once it opens in the spring!

This is not the first time you went in a natural hot spring. Did you forget the time you went in Arequipa in Peru?
