After several failed attempts of making it to the Barbara Fritchie house, I finally got there last weekend. She is a popular figure in Frederick history. Her main claim to fame is hanging out a windown when she was 95 with a flag as Union troops walked past her house during the Civil War. She also had a collection of teapots that were used to serve George Washington tea and a desk where some famous-ish commander in the Civil War wrote a letter home, just weeks before his death. Winston Churchill visited her home as well with FDR I think. The house as it stands today is actually not the original house, but a replica from the early 1900's, but over 100 years to say the least.
They had many artifacts though that were original including a scarf that Francis Scott Key gave to Mrs. Fritchie. One of the many historic sites in the area.
