The main reason that I've been delayed in postings is because this past week was Marine Biology day camp. With three other women and one junior counselor we had 26 9-14 year olds Monday-Friday for 7 hours a day. Everything went really well, seamlessly often and the kids seemed to have a really good time. I got to teach some lessons on orca food webs and invertebrates. We took the kids tidepooling and out to an old railroad trestle during lowtide to do some clamming, seining and looking for worms. During tidepooling within a 2 hour period we saw a ton of wildlife that was less than 100 yards away including a few river otter, bald eagle, blue heron, harbor seals, and porpoises!!! Amazing. At the end of the week we had them build an orca out of sand, which was quite challenge and at that point, we were all tired, hot and the kids were as well. The weather cooperated and was fantastic and it actually feels like summer here, mid-August. But I don't think I could work camps all summer, no way. Too much energy is needed that I don't have and I'm glad to get back to normal work schedule next week! I posted a video of clamming time with the kids. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhMiMgFiD4w
