There's certainly no need for me to get a pet in Port Townsend. Between going from housesitting gig to housesitting gig and having a roommate with two cats, I get my fill of the furry creatures. My roommate has two cats, one male named Freedom who is a tabby about 7 years old. He's awesome, can be very affectionate but not overly so. He is very independent, yet he doesn't mind a little cuddle every once in a while and comes in and hangs with me while I blast away at the laptop. He also has a sagging stomach that swings to and fro when he runs, it's pretty funny.
Then there is Drew who is a female calico, about a year old. I guess you could say she's Freedom's polar opposite. She's quite a drama queen, walking around the house and meowing until someone pays attention to her. She often throws herself on the floor in front of you and rolls over on her back. After a while it drives you nuts and you end up yelling at her. While Freedom has street smarts, Drew has zero. She often gets stuck up on the roof and has been beaten up by strays in the neighborhood. But she sure is funny and makes me laugh with her antics and strange faces. She's very animated. She is also a long hair calico thus soft and fluffy (this also means very large mats). She's probably the most neurotic cat I've ever known. Freedom is the perfect match for her though since he's so relaxed and puts up with her. She's like his little sister.
I've also put on photos of Sandy, the most recent dog I've housesat for. He's a golden doodle (part golden retriever and part poodle) with loads of energy. He loves to be pet and is very lovey dovey, using his wet nose to burrow under my hands or arm to get a rub. He runs after the ball then as I walk to get another he beats me there and also fits that one into his mouth. I also end up laughing as we race to get the ball. He's tried to get three in his mouth but it's just not big enough. He's one great dog and I told Roger I may change his locks before he's back since I like his cozy place and dog so much! The animals have surely kept me company this winter on many cloudy, rainy, cold, and dreary days.
