Swimming - the second chapter

As many of you know, I swam competitively for a long period of time, from age 4-18 to be exact. It ended at my senior year in high school though since I ended up at Penn State and they have Olympic qualifying swimmers and that was out of my league. Since hs, I've done some swimming, a short stint with the PSU masters team, some regular lap swimming during AmeriCorps but not much since then.

I discovered that Port Townsend, despite the small size of the community, has a masters team! I've been swimming with them since late July in their 20yard, four lane pool.

Tomorrow, I will swim in my first meet since age 18. I have to take a 30min ferry ride and then drive an hour to get there. Unfortunately, none of my fellow swimmers decided to sign up so I'm going by myself and representing the team on my own, but it should be nothing short of interesting. It was hard to think of seed times since this meet is 25meters and then there's the whole thing about having raced in over 10years so figuring out how much time to add, estimate, etc. I'll be swimming the 100free, 100breast, 100back and 200IM. The meet is mixed, meaning that the heat you swim in is based only on your seed time, gender or age is not a factor. So it's likely that I'll swim with people of all ages and men and women which will be a new thing. It seems really well organized since they've already since out the heat sheets as well. It gives me a little time to scope out the competition. I'm hoping that I surprise myself and beat all my seed times but I do think my endurance will be a challenge since I've been swimming in 20yd pool and while 25m doesn't seem like a big difference, I think it will make a difference.

I also have to figure out the rules when I get there, if I can do cross over turns, practice diving, practice backstroke. I hope I can do flip turns for all strokes because if not, that'll be something I have to practice as well. I'm hoping for a few cap too since I only have random caps from a website grab bag and we don't have one for our team. Well...until next week. Hoping to post some good times!
