Around midnight on Wednesday I set off bound for the east. This entailed an hour car ride to Bainbridge Island, a 30min ferry ride, the Seattle light rail for 30minutes, a flight to Atlanta and then another to Boston - voila! Back to the coast of delicious subs, soft pretzels and pizza, and yes, I know the east coast has much more to offer but those are items that I haven't found an equivalent to here, and I haven't had dinner.
The purpose of this trek was destination Salem, MA to see one of my besties, Rebecca, get married. It was worth every minute of the travel to see my friend on her special day. The wedding itself was lovely and held in the Nathaniel Hawthorne Hotel (think scarlet letter author). Salem itself is a really cute town, lots of history, lots of witchery, and on the water. Definitely worth a trip just to see the town. I was entrusted in reading On Marriage by Kahlil Gibran which was a great honor. Everything went seemlessly and I had a blast at the rehearsel and I danced my pants off. To see my friend so happy as well was worth traveling any distance.
The trip back was a bit more rushed, and I had to run to my connecting flight in Minneapolist only to have to speedily walk to the light rail once I landed in Seattle. With 10 minutes to make it to the ferry from the light rail, I ran full out with all my luggage and ended up being the 3rd to last passenger admitted onto the ferry back to my little peninsula. The guy actually was saying into a walkie talkie "I've got 3 more Jim."
Once I was on the ferry, I started to be filled with warmth, knowing that soon I'd be driving through the woods into my idyllic little town of Port Townsend. I was greeted by rain and cool temperatures but this didn't damper my excitement. My good friend Joe picked me up at the ferry and off we went. We hit "Egg and I Rd." shortly after and I was so excited, despite the crappy weather and the fact that I'd have to work the next day, to be going home -- and I believe this was the first time I've referred to this place as home. It was comforting to see the roads that I know and to be heading back to the house I've been sitting instead of the trailer. As I slid into the covers of the comfy bed and readied to go to sleep that night, I felt nothing but peace --- despite all the uncertainty in my life.
