On Friday, my friend Joe and I set off to see Ft. Flagler just to get out of PT for a little bit. He had to get some work done so we left in the morning and found a pleasant bluff trail. Ft. Flagler is across the water from Port Townsend so we were able to get a good view of it as well as Whidbey Island and Mt. Baker. The weather was fabulous and the trails were surprisingly nice, through wooded areas. Designed much like the fort I live in, Ft. Flagler has old military batteries, barracks and buildings all over the place. It's a pretty large park and has a campground. We ended up walking around for an hour an a half and got into a conversation about subs. There aren't a plethora of sub shops or places to find these wonderful creations but Joe had heard of one restaurant. We headed back to Port Townsend to Jordini's where we both enjoyed delicious subs. As we were sitting on the back deck of this place with the sun shining I said "man, it feels like we're on vacation, beautiful weather, a walk in the woods, subs" --- so Joe decided we were on "vacation" and he didn't need to work that day. I made it to a used bookstore, complete jem of Port Townsend with a good selection and extremely reasonable prices. From there we headed to pick berries. We probably spent a good hour in the sunshine picking blackberries and eating them. I made my first cobbler ever then with these fresh berries that I'd hand picked! This classifies me as a real adult, right?
A wonderful day though, probably an 8-8.5 out of 10 on the happiness scale. DOn't let the summer end! Pictures are of Mt. Baker, Joe eating a sour berry, and our berry cache!
