How does that old addage go - the more things change the more they stay the same?
After months and months of applying for and
interviewing for jobs, and turning up nothing, I've returned for the past two months or so to Port Townsend to
regroup. Since the data entry job ended in late spring, I've tried my hand at many jobs, piecing them all together to make ends meet and constantly networking - teaching storm drain lessons, gardening, organizing personal offices, working summer camps, babysitting, and how can I forget the weedwhacking?
Well, for the time being, I get a break from job hunting because of all places, I have been offered, accepted and have been hired for a job here
in PT -- and back at the marine science center! I started officially this past Saturday
in the new role, but will only work on a part time basis until January which is when I'll be full time. Last week I worked for them as a instructor for a whale camp but that is different than the new position.
I'll continue landscaping in December, and combined with some
babysitting and coho salmon surveying, I'm sure to be busy. The pay is pretty minimal, but I am provided with free housing - yes, back to the trailer. I assume I'll
spend a better part of December making friends with the trailer again and
getting comfortable. I feel some uncertainty, as I want to have a smooth transition back into the science center and be able to fulfill the expectations of my former and new colleagues, and also to survive winter in the trailer.
I'm hoping to get a few house-sits to help me along the coldest months.
The position
is a mish mash of responsibilities - a large chunk of working with volunteers and the science classes -
coordinating, planning, teaching, supervising, writing curricula, which are all skills I've been wanting to hone and grow. I couldn't pass up this
opportunity. The position is temporary, through the end of next October, and hopefully will help me be the perfect candidate a dream job. I haven't had an opportunity to really celebrate getting a job
since I've had so many other things on my mind in the past two weeks, but hooray! Please say cheers with me on this new venture of professional and self growth!
