Poulsbo

David and I have been taking all kinds of little trips on the peninsula the past few months. One Sunday a few weeks ago we decided we didn't want to go far or somewhere that required a ferry, so off to Poulsbo! It's on the Olympic Peninsula, about a 40min drive away. David even took me the scenic route.

Wikipedia reports that "Poulsbo has a long history as a destination for immigrants from Scandinavia, particularly Norway and Finland. Downtown Poulsbo maintains a Scandinavian theme in its shops and restaurants, and is a popular regional tourist destination. One of its local products is now available worldwide, Poulsbo Bread, originally made in the local bakery. Many visitors arrive by boat; there are three marinas near the town, and the town's harbor is an excellent anchorage."

We walked around to the many galleries and shops and went to the Poulsbo Marine Life Center. They had salmon which was cool, but mostly the same species as PTMSC, and with tanks that were filthy, in comparison to ours. I'm definitely biased now when it comes to aquariums and marine science centers. We went to the fun little bakery and shared a blueberry cake donut! David's first. It's one of my favorite kinds of donuts...and I don't have many favorite donuts, but they don't appear to be sold in regular donut places here. Instead, you have to drive far away for this delicacies. And...I think the Nell's at home does it better. Poulsbo is mostly people over the age of 70 as well.

After this little jaunt, David took me to Bainbridge Island, which I've been to many times, but we visited the area and marina he lived in for many years there. A side of this island I'd yet to see. It's a neat little downtown at both of these locations.
