back to hiking, finally - Slab Creek Camp/Upper Gray Wolf

Oh hiking, how I missed thee. I've had a spring and summer void of hiking - just haven't gotten the motivation and when friends go, they go big - too big for me, like 16 miles. Last week, I asked my awesome friend Chelsea and she said yes, I'm up for anything. I picked a hike in my book that was on the way to her final destination that was reasonable in distance and difficulty - let's not kill ourselves right out of the gate, right? There were no huge mountains to climb, and of course that meant not a ton of wild flowers or snow or amazing, breathtaking views, but...it was perfect in it's own way.

She brought her sister along and while the road there was like off roading, the hike was perfect. Great distance, good hills to make your butt burn and good time w/ my friend. The day was perfect and sunny, there was a river, and it felt good to be back in nature. If only Chelsea was available every day I wanted to hike!
