Adventuress

For my birthday, I booked tickets for David and I on a tall ship. It sails and stations out of Port Townsend and does student education programs throughout the Sound. It just celebrated its 100th birthday. David has lived here for over ten years and had never been, despite his avid interest in boats, so off we went. It was a beautiful day with wind and the boat really got moving. They did the education program on microplastics which are a large problem in the world's oceans and something I actually wrote lesson plans on for the science center.

The manta trawl, which is a plankton net with  a large mouth (like a manta ray) is pulled behind the boat for a period of time then the cod end is removed and the concentrated sample sent to a lab to look for microplastics.
