Relay!

I participated in my first Relay for Life last weekend. I hadn't been so active in a fundraiser for cancer since grade school really when I'd do the swim-a-thon for cancer over the summer. This time around, my coworker had already signed up an organized her own team in the winter and the rest of the AmeriCorps gals and myself joined the team "Save the Whales" - our token guy was our friend Joe who is now a volunteer for PTMSC (port townsend marine science center). I was so excited for the event as we had a lot of fun activities planned for our tent and the event itself was an opportunity to spend time with my friends. We started off on Saturday at 6pm and it ended on Sunday around 3pm. The problem was that most of us worked on Sunday. It all worked out though and we split up all the shifts so that we always had someone from our team walking on the track. We set up tents to sleep inside the track as well and I slept okay actually. We were in charge of the PJ walk at 11pm, which is the one photo of all our marine themed pj's and we handed out passes to the science center for the best pjs. It was a great experience and I was happy to participate with my friends for such an important cause. Thank you to all that donated! We had some pretty cute costumes that we borrowed from the science center and won best decorated tent. We made an pinata in the shape of an orca and had fish printing and an intertidal waterways game for kids to play.
