Pickin' up the Pieces

I've come to my blog, 2 or 3 times since I last posted in November, thinking of writing but feeling uninspired. I can pinpoint this the beginning of winter in retrospect. Seasonal affective disorder, which I've had on the east coast, is baaaack. Here though, the winter is more like 6 months of gray instead of 4 with maybe a day/month of great sun, maybe 2-3 if we're lucky.

Also, it feels like I have been living a life since this past winter, that in general, isn't as exciting as it has been in prior years out here. But it is more stable, in terms of job and relationship. Maybe that gives my brain the sense that stable = boring and dull. For the time being, I've exited the world of Facebook also. In a time where I'm not feeling super excited about anything, it can be frustrating to see how "wonderful" everyone else's life are, how awesome life is! Or, at least what's shown on Facebook. I do miss seeing the photos of friends kids growing up and seeing friendly faces - getting nice messages, but there wasn't enough of the positive for me to rationalize staying on. I haven't missed it at all.

I won't make this a sob story though. In reality, when I step back, my life is pretty okay. Here's a brief summary of the past 4 months.

Work - I started working full time, permanent, but if you read this, you probably already know that. I started in August, but it's been quite a transition. I have more responsibility than I have had in other jobs, a work space is is highly undesirable, and handful of mini challenges on any given week. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to sustain myself in this position, as it can be stressful and has a workload that never seems to let up, no matter my organization or persistence for learning everything inside and out. Maybe after a few years, it'd get easier, but the position was designed as an experiment. We'll see what happens. Lately though it's driven me to working long days, sometimes weekends, and really has eradicated any sense of social life or fun...not good news.

Living situation - I'm still living in the little house that I last wrote about in the blog, but that time is winding down. The owners come back at the end of April so I'll need to vacate in about 6 weeks. The plan is to put what I can in David's storage unit, bounce around doing some house sitting and then move onto the boat until I find the right fit (studio, ADU, room in shared house - whatever it may be).

Love life - David and I are still trucking. The winter has been hard for him because he's gotten to deal with my lovely self and mood swings, but he's taken it in stride. There have been a few bumps but we still have fun, laugh, smile and generally agree on most things. He still is planning his boat journey, and our paths don't seem to be quite aligned in the future, but for now, I don't think there is a rush to get it all figured out and make any sudden moves.

Social life - This has been non-existent. I'm sorry to all my friends I've neglected. I'll try to do better starting in April once things calm down. But call me, email me!

Other things, fun things - David and I have went on some trips to break the winter monotony, done some snow shoeing, so I'll start after this posting by catching up with a few posts on those events. Next weekend is my work's big fundraising auction and I have had a large role, so it'll be great to get that behind me. The days are getting longer, more light in the sky. It starts around 6:30 now, and stays till 6pm! It's very noticeable and amazing how much of a difference that can make in my mood. Well, onward. Hope people may come back and read despite my hiatus!
