It's not the place, it's the people

A good friend once told me, "it's not the place, it's the people!" Well for me that is true about my life in many ways and for the past few weeks this has also been the case. Since leaving the science center, moving out of the trailer, being homeless, jobless, starting a new job, looking for a place, getting adjusted to daylight savings and winter and the cold...I was feeling the blues. Not to say that I feel completely out of the woods, but there have been challenges. Without the network and support of people that I've met here though, I would have floundered...and probably left Port Townsend. Don't get me wrong, this place is overall pretty stellar, in large part to a wonderful community and the generous spirit of this town. The scenery is gorgeous of course, there are a lot of pros about this place but much of my decision to stay was the people. I'm slowly learning a life sans marine science center, but continuing to network since my current job, data entry, isn't my life's dream :) Imagine that. It's also more important than ever for me to maintain my social life since I work from hom and I need that social interaction. I have some trips planned in the near future and am looking forward to getting settled for a little bit, even if just a few short months. Since moving here, I feel as though my faith in humankind has been restored a bit as the people here are so kind, generous, original and look out for one another. Below I've posted some photos of friends, Arnold, who kept me company at Aldrich's for hours while I worked; Todd, who introduced me to barstool bingo, among other "PT" traditions; and Heather, who would probably be first to know if anything was wrong with me since she does daily check-ins. P.S. those aren't her glasses just funny looking ones. Thank you to my new friends here for being great and also my friends and family at home who continue to support. On to chapter #2 of Port Townsend.
