Port Angeles and Relay for Life

Last week post-weedwhacking called for a little TLC. Val and I set off for Port Angeles to visit the beauty school. At dirt cheap prices, I got a hair trim and pedicure, not as good as a really salon, but for $24, it can't be beat. We shared a delicious croissant sandwich, I will be revisiting that place, and did a little shopping. I'd strapped our bikes to the back of my car and after some deliberation, we decided to stay in town and bike the Olympic Discovery trail. The intention is for a bike trail to go from the east end of the peninsula to the west end, providing a walking/hiking/biking method of getting to the coast and back, and environmentally-friendly option. The trail has been created, partially and currently runs from Blyn, 30 minutes west of Port Townsend, to 20miles-ish, west of Port Angeles, so I think they've completed somewhere around 30 miles of the intended 100 miles of trail. In Port Angeles we only biked around 9 miles total and encountered PA's best, a homeless? man pulling down his pants and also laying in the middle of the trail, there was also a small mudslide on a section so we turned back at that point. It followed the water most of the way though so that was pleasant.

Saturday and Sunday brought the second year of team "Save the Whales" at the Relay for Life event in PT. Many of you may remember that I participated in this walk last year. They amped it up to a 24 hour constant walking event where you trade off with teammates to walk in honor of those that have died from or are fighting or have survived cancer. We beat our fundraising goal and surpassed what we made last year as well, so the event was a success. We had a tent of our own where we had fun activities such as fish printing (using a painted fish or sea star mold to "print" your t-shirt) and purple hair streaks. Both activities were a hit. Team "Save the Whales," minus Chris & plus Nathan who happened to be visiting.
