Off to Seattle for a weekend getaway! Inspired by Groupons and a desire to see more of the city. Just kidding, the trip was riddled with unforeseen obstacles. Started out with a groupon facial, which resulted in a parking ticket for not being back in first - signage terrible. Moved on to the U District and visited a much anticipated partner museum of the science center - mediocre. Yummy lunch at an asian hole in the wall, however, was distracted by the drunk, or high, college student making faces at us on the other side of the glass.
Off to the College Inn pub - now this was a neat little spot...and thankfully, we were staying right above in the College Inn. Sat by fake fireplace and played darts. "Turn of the century hotel," ended up being more like third world hostel - complete with massive brown stains all over the furniture - $70 bucks spent, should have went to the posh Groupon hotel in Queen Anne. Moving on...went off to have dinner w/ a Living Social deal, nice spanish tapas place, but the band started setting up right next to us in a little corner after 15 minutes into our meal, mere inches away. Off to see the Hobbit in 3D, was good, but missed the first 5 minutes. Walk back to the hotel to find what? Another parking ticket on the car. At that point, it'd been steadily raining the entire day, I was fed up with the city of Seattle and their assanine ticketing and the rude, inconsiderate college kids running all about us. On to Sunday, got free breakfast at the hotel, then tried to locate the Botanical Gardens and Asian museum, still raining, but there was no charge to get in - first cha ching on the trip! Headed to use another Groupon in Ballard at a famous brunch spot. After searching for 20minutes for a parking spot, I was reminded of the huge downfalls of city life. Into the brunch place, packed, but only waited 5 minutes, then was informed my Groupon only worked during the week...the waitress read our looks of despair and was the highlight of our trip -- "where are you from? port townsend... well heck! i'll honor it since you came so far!" Hooray! However, when I went to attempt my first ordering ever of eggs benefit, of which they home made the hollandaise sauce, I was informed they were out. David and I laughed, it was the trend of our weekend. But it was good what I got instead. Below you'll see David studying orchids at the gardens and staring happily at his brunch (corned beef hash? and eggs? and whiskey) at the Haddies Hat. Afterward, we did have fun walking through the Farmer's Market and making some small purchases. If I ever do an overnight in Seattle again, there will be many changes - staying in a different part of the city, in a real hotel, and probably not driving at all. Oh, and by the way, we disputed the second ticket since there was no rationale for getting it...and we actually had that written off and didn't have to pay it.
