Spring break Florida - part 2

After our visit with the manatees we headed for alligator alley. The small island of Chokoloskie had been recommended by a science center volunteer and I'd never in the many times to Florida, been that far south. We set off for the island and escaped the rainy day in Fort Myers. We found the island to be sunny, blue skies, and pretty tiny. There wasn't much to see and I was a little confused on the recommendation, however I took a nice show of this old trading post below that was frequented by the Seminole Indians. On our way off the island, we stopped at what appeared to be on the only restaurant for lunch. It was a little Cuban restaurant that served wraps. We split a delicious wrap and had perhaps the worst service of our lives, so much so that we laughed most of the time we where there. We set off to our next adventure of the day...to see alligators. After stopping at a visitor center, we learned in the matter of 7 miles we could see as many gators as we wanted and the country's smallest post office. Off we went...

Chokoloskie
We easily found the road and within minutes, began to site alligators and many birds - of which I couldn't identify. Every few feet it seemed in the canals off to our left we saw one gator after another. In the middle of the road we found a huge rattlesnake as well - we were in the sticks. On the road every few blocks there'd be a house hidden in the woods, and we kept thinking, who the heck lives here?! They must open their doors in the morning with a machete in case a snake or gator is sleeping on the porch. This was pretty cool. Onward!

Five gators there, can you see them all?

Smallest post office, they were closed...
