A week after my birthday I headed home to see Mom and Aunt Helga and Grandma came over to visit. It was nice to catch up and get the royal treatment.

While leading a hike a few days prior to that I happened to notice an odd shaped thing coming out of the ground. By thing I mean, I couldn't identify if it was a mushroom, animal, plant or alien life form. Turns out it's called Stinky Squid, a type of fungus in the stinkhorn family. I touched it but didn't smell, apparently it is real stinky and attracts insects that then disperse it's spores. Smart.
