Cloudie's Adventure, continuation of Day 1

After leaving the research center, I just couldn't settle on where to go next. There was a wildlife area that had a "Critical Driving Area" that was only open for 5 hours on Sunday, however I would only have 30 min to do it once I arrived. But there is a cool fire tower there, one of Maryland's last or something...so I set the GPS, then 15 minutes later decided I didn't want to rush myself through a place, and then that axed off the historical site over near it. Okay, so I'd try for Jug Bay instead, although I was doubting I'd be able to get through all of that in one day, but I set the GPS again. Another 15 minutes later I felt like I was going to fall asleep at the wheel. Mind you, it's around 2pm on a Sunday and I'm feeling this way. I've driven almost 18 hours by myself and many 12 hour days before and hadn't felt this tired. I'd only been in the car for a max of 2 hours this day...the week's activities were obviously taking a toll. Reset GPS for third time, goal -- make it to final destination safely. Onward.

My host had communicated to me that the local winery had free music on Sundays and that's where her and her husband would be that afternoon. I got to my little dwelling and called her. She directed me down and there I found a beautiful setting, older buildings, on the water, they looked historic, a lady playing on the keyboard and a dock out to the water. It's a B&B apparently and the winery didn't actually have any wine cause it was a bad year or something but they had free beer, good beer, and Nancy had brought her own wine and poured me a glass immediately. It felt like I'd known Nancy and Rick and their neighbors (their names escape me) for years. There was hardly anyone there, it seemed impossible. How could this be? It was so peaceful and beautiful. We hung out for a while and then all headed to what would be my home for the next two nights. Nancy came over when I returned and invited me to dinner. I learned all about Nancy and Rick, they're world travelers, have also lived on their sailboat, have known each other since they were teenagers, and go to Mexico every winter. They live the life. The cottage/tiny house I stayed in was basically their shed and their neighbor (the one I met) convinced Rick (a contractor) to convert it and put it on airbnb, voila! They're new to it, only since the fall. Initially I was pretty shocked with how small it was, the photos made it seem more spacious, but pretty quickly I felt right at home. And once you see the photos you'll probably agree.

The winery, and that's the Potomac back there, but it's more like the sea, lots of big trees

That was the chair I sat in and sipped wine and free beer. An immediate reaction --- I could envision being married here!

The long road to the winery where I saw a bald eagle soaring about, on my way out!
